Joshua Stenhouse 0

I’m super excited to announce the first ever Boston PowerShell Hackathon 12/05/17 at District Hall, in the Seaport, from 7pm-10pm. There is no cost to register and free beer/food will be provided. From scripting novice to pro, everybody is welcome to come join in some PowerShell scripting fun. In already? Register quick as places are limited:

https://bostonpowershellhackathon.splashthat.com/districthallStill undecided? If you are in the IT infrastructure business and want to progress your PowerShell and automation skills, this is exactly the kind of event you need to be attending. Maybe you are unsure as to what a hackathon entails? If so, read on.

Here is the Wikipedia description:

“A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on software projects.”

The problem with this list is that it doesn’t specifically include those of us who love to script. Using PowerShell modules and REST APIs we can build amazing things, but it seems that we need to prove it (or maybe just edit Wikipedia! haha). This event is designed to do just that. Why can’t you do a hackathon for a scripting language too? Let’s show it can be done!

Starting 7pm we will get everybody settled in with a beer, a slice of pizza, then we will separate into small agile groups. Each team will then have the choice of taking on any scripting project you want to tackle. The world is your oyster! I’ll be bringing my lab so you’ll be able to script anything you want in with my infrastructure (which includes Rubrik, Zerto, Nutanix/AHV, Hyper-V and VMware vSphere). You will also have internet access if you want to script anything else or just to help you build your script. We finish at 9:30pm with live demos of what you created with prizes for the best effort and coolest idea.

I can promise you 3 things from this event:

  1. You will have fun
  2. You will learn something new
  3. No vendor pitches whatsoever

On the subject of vendors, I’d like to thank the amazing marketing team at Rubrik for organizing and being the main sponsor along with Zerto and Nutanix for helping out. In case you missed the link, click below to register:

So, what are you waiting for? Register early as spaces are limited. Just bring your laptop, charger, and I’ll see you there.

Joshua
